Africa’s Gift at Marian’s Eden – August 2023
In August 2023, Africa’s Gift visited Marian’s Eden to support ongoing community and environmental projects. During our stay, we worked on the pocket pharmacy, removed invasive species, and carried out essential mulching—all helping to create space for the coffee and medicinal plants to flourish.
We were inspired by the energy and creativity of Lilian, the site manager and a talented young mother. Using a template from Tanzania, she crafted an Eco-Cook Bag and successfully cooked with it—an uplifting and memorable moment for everyone involved.
Marian’s Eden has now been firmly established as a forest sanctuary for the Batwa and Kigezi communities. As part of our commitment to restoring native biodiversity, non-native eucalyptus trees have been felled, with the timber safely stored for future use in constructing a dedicated visitors’ centre.
